Functional and Stylish Under-Cabinet & Backsplash Lighting

Kitchen lighting should balance form and function—providing the perfect illumination for cooking while elevating key design features like backsplashes and countertops. With thoughtful placement, lighting can enhance texture, add depth, and complement a range of interior styles. For effective task and accent lighting, we recommend three techniques: Counter Direct for focused prep lighting, and Backsplash Wash or Graze to highlight surface detail while maintaining task functionality. In our examples, we feature Luminii’s Kendo M Surface in Static White and Tunable White, Myka 45 in Static White for bright direct or wash applications, and Kendo S Surface in Static White and Tunable White for graze effects.

Modern Accents with Purpose: Toe-Kick Lighting

Toe-kick lighting adds a sleek, modern touch to kitchens while providing practical, low-level illumination. For a crisp, defined look, direct toe-kicks create clean lines of light along base cabinets. Looking for something softer? Indirect toe-kicks reduce glare on polished floors and subtly highlight millwork or cabinetry details. For added visual interest, grazing toe-kicks can accent textures on materials like stone or wood, enhancing depth without overwhelming the space. We recommend Luminii’s Kendo S Surface Static White or Tunable White, available in damp or wet-rated versions, with an optional graze lens for a more dramatic effect.

Elevate Kitchen Design with Over-Cabinet and Cove Lighting

Add depth, scale, and warmth to kitchen spaces with thoughtful over-cabinet and cove lighting. In traditional applications, low-level cove simulation can support or even replace downlighting—ideal for kitchens with exposed ceilings or limited overhead space. In rooms with tall ceilings, over-cabinet lighting draws the eye upward, washing the ceiling and enhancing the sense of scale. For forward-throw accent lighting, we recommend Luminii’s Kendo 45M Static White with frosted lens (available in damp or wet-rated versions). For soft, indirect accents, Kendo M with frosted lens is ideal, while Luminii’s mCove Surface Mount in Static White or Tunable White offers high-output general illumination.

Beyond aesthetics, dimmable lighting is also energy efficient. Lower light levels mean less energy consumption, which translates to long-term cost savings on your utility bills. It’s a smart, stylish upgrade for any home.

Luminii offers a wide range of dimming options including ELV, 0–10V, TRIAC, DMX, and DALI2—compatible with smart home systems and tailored to your specific needs.

Color Temperature

Color temperature plays a major role in how your home feels. From warm, cozy tones in the living room to crisp, bright light in the bathroom or kitchen, the right color temperature enhances both mood and functionality. It also impacts how furniture, artwork, and finishes appear, helping your home look its best.

Different spaces serve different purposes, and color temperature allows you to personalize each room’s vibe—from relaxed and inviting to clean and energizing.

Luminii offers a wide range of color temperature solutions, including Static White, Tunable White, and Warm Dim—giving you full control over the look and feel of your home lighting.

As the central hub of activity, the kitchen island demands lighting that’s both functional and visually refined. From food prep to casual dining, the right lighting elevates the entire kitchen experience. Whether your design leans toward downlighting, suspended fixtures, directional accents, or ambient glows—Luminii has a solution. For a clean, modern look, we recommend the barely-there Stenos micro-optics downlight range, offering seamless, low-profile illumination. For greater flexibility, the Stenos micro-optics Suspended Track system includes directional and ambient options, plus track heads for targeted light. With infinite track shapes and lengths, Stenos adapts beautifully to any kitchen layout.
