The Latest Recipe represents a watershed moment for the interior design of restaurants in the Middle East, so it’s only fitting that Precision’s Evo spotlights were chosen as part of a stunning lighting design for this prestigious contemporary restaurant.
The Latest Recipe is a modern brasserie located in Abu Dhabi’s prestigious La Méridien, the four-star urban resort that has remained a signature tourist landmark for over 35 years in the expanding island metropolis.
Respected architects Silverfox Studios designed the restaurant, which offers diners dishes from Eastern and Western culinary traditions in a delightful and surprising fusion with an ever-changing daily menu.
Project Lighting Design (PLD) were responsible for the beautiful lighting design of the project, ensuring the scheme creates a welcoming environment ideal for the all-day brasserie, and yet perfectly in-line with the freshness of the décor from Silverfox.
The minimalist Evo spotlights were mounted in specialised troughs above the cooking stations, home of live culinary theatre from international chefs showcasing a multitude of the latest trends in cuisine.
Evo luminaires were fitted to flat monopoints, chosen for their discrete ceiling plate, while others were mounted via Precision’s Basis track system. The project is evidence of the variety of installation options available to lighting designers through Precision’s unique Jack Plug system.
As lighting designer Peggy Tan, of PLD, highlights: “We have specified Precision on several projects now, the fittings are always beautifully finished, with good glare control and there is a good range of mounting options.”
The brushed aluminium finish of the spotlights at the Latest Recipe indicates the importance of detail in product design that Precision are acutely aware of. The machined aluminium used throughout the portfolio is of aerospace grade quality, selected for optimal thermal performance, and the Evo X11s with the long snoot accessory as used in the brasserie were designed around the classical proportions of the Golden Ratio.
The range of accessories available across the Precision portfolio also ensures a multitude of beam options without sacrificing optical excellence, with the Evo spotlights featured in the restaurant employing a honeycomb louvre to reduce glare, ideal for illuminating the food stations without causing obtrusive light for the chefs controlling the area.
Also important in a context where the appearance of food is equally important to the taste, is the colour rendering of the lighting. The specified Evo luminaires ensure that not only are the food stations lit with an attractive light but also that the excellent colour rendering of the spotlights confirms the vibrant colours of the menu options are accurately revealed through the lighting.
