With its grand opening in 2020, BIÂN is a unique members-only wellness club located inside the former Montgomery Ward warehouse building at 600 W. Chicago Ave. BIÂN set out to create an entire ecosystem of wellness amenities across more than 21,000 square feet of beautifully architected space, including everything from traditional fitness options, cosmetic and therapeutic treatments, medical testing tied to well-being, and so much more. Luminii was honored to be a part of this historic project. We teamed up with our friends at Morlights to deliver this truly one-of-a-kind and exclusive experience.

Luminii Products and Applications at BIÂN

At the very first project meeting, interior designer Karen Herold said, “I don’t want to see the lights, I just want it to be illuminated.” The wide range of shapes, sizes, and distributions provided by Luminii’s product portfolio was the answer to Herold’s request and every application across the club. Luminii mCove was used in the large open spaces to line the concrete structure and discreetly illuminate the ceilings, as if by magic. The Bosca Graze was utilized with hidden clips to illuminate vertical surfaces when the fixtures were visible while Kendo Graze, with its tighter optics, was used where the fixtures were hidden in the drapery valance.

Combining the STP (super tight pitch) series LED tape with the Kendo Small created an ideal accent fixture around the mirrors in the yoga studio and fitness areas, providing enough performance to create a halo in a daylit space, while eliminating dotting and showing a consistent line of illumination when viewed directly. Luminii’s Tunable White LEDs lent warmth and intimacy to the bar feature wall at night, but stand up to strong daylight the rest of the time.

Kurba direct view products were used in the spa treatment areas to ground the illumination and create a soft glow for relaxation. Coves, toe-kicks, and die walls throughout benefit from Kendo M in both surface mount and recessed extrusions – and sometimes no extrusion at all. Luminii’s products, with their DALI-controlled drivers, allowed Morlights to use lumen packages high enough to stand up to daylight, then dim, flicker-free, to almost nothing at night when calm and relaxation become the task.

In addition, Kendo Small Wet was used on the exterior at the entry and in the showers at the spa locker rooms, while the Luminii LL Tube Wet was used in an extrusion without a lens to avoid trapped moisture in the steam rooms.

Luminii’s LL36x2, LL54x2, and SLW20 were used to design a vibrant and engaging learning environment and set the stage for productive study and continued achievement.

A contemporary gourmet bistro, Wally’s has a well-earned reputation among Californians for their passionate expertise in wine, spirits, and cuisine. The exquisite interior is replete with hardwood furnishings, marble tabletops, and a display of over 2,500 wines with each facet complemented by Luminii’s OAX-44 lighting and imbuing the restaurant with an ethereal atmosphere.

Swingers is a 1950s era styled diner featuring a neon color scheme, jukebox rocking classic tunes, and a signature dessert called an Andy Warhol purple cow. Luminii’s LineLEDs were used to light up this vintage slice of Americana and envelop patrons in the bright and vibrant aura of a not-too-distant history.

Whether it’s getting up-close and personal with a Saturn V rocket, shaking hands with a veteran astronaut, or touching a moon rock; the NASA Kennedy Space Center can induce a feeling of awe in anyone. To highlight these otherworldly attractions, Luminii’s LineLED X18-RGB was used to venerate and promote the inspirational mystique of a collection comprising some of humanity’s greatest achievements.

LA Fitness, a gym chain with more than 700 clubs across the United States and Canada, is renowned for its wide array of personal health offerings including; modern equipment, personal trainers, and friendly staff. Luminii’s OAX 44 was used throughout the chain’s locations to create a vibrant, engaging, and healthy environment with it’s clean, white lighting.

Part of a chain of boutique hotels, Hotel Indigo in downtown Los Angeles, features a one-of-a-kind design with intimate service and impeccable comfort. Luminii’s OAX 44 and OAX 30 were used in coordination with natural light to accentuate the hotel’s vibrant color palette and local design and create an all-around inviting, stylish, and refreshing atmosphere.
