Fifty remote controlled recessed DR7 luminaires from RCL light an 855 m2 pillarless Ballroom at the new luxury Hyatt Regency hotel in a scheme from Maurice Brill Lighting Design.
The hotel, located in the capital city of Tashkent, offers guests easy access to local landmarks and tourist attractions, including the National Library, Chorsu Bazaar, Amir Temur Museum, and Mustaqillik Square. Additionally, business travelers will be in close proximity to nearby government offices, embassies and numerous corporate offices.
Given that the new Hyatt Regency is the luxury hotel brand’s first opening in Uzbekistan, the brand paid special attention in delivering superior facilities and amenities for the hotel. Included within the hotel’s offerings are an indoor swimming pool, a luxury spa, a 24-hour gym, and four different restaurants and bars.
Chief among the facilities though, are the 2,300 m2 of flexible meeting and event facilities, principal among which is the colossal Regency Ballroom, complete with its own dedicated foyer. The ballroom, at 855 m2, was designed to accommodate a large number of people in a variety of settings, from 460 delegates in a banquet configuration to 800 guests in a theater set-up.
Maurice Brill Lighting Design (MBLD) was responsible for the lighting of the hotel, and for the practice, creating a comfortable, residential aesthetic was crucial, with the emphasis on warm color tones, and the integration of indirect lighting within the architecture and interiors of the building.
DR7s provide flexible solution for high ceilings of the Regency Ballroom.
With double-height ceilings in the Regency Ballroom, and a space that can be configured in multiple-set-ups, MBLD required a luminaire that solved practical considerations.
Without remote controlled luminaires for the 7.5m high space, “…it would have been very hard for the operator to focus the pin spots to the tables for every different event type hosted,” explained Eleni Nikiforidou, Senior Designer at MBLD.
The DR7s supplied allow for convenient re-positioning of the luminaires from ground-level, allowing the hotel’s team to focus the lighting without the need for the expensive, and potentially hazardous, use of ladders, scaffolding or mechanical lifts.
The flexibility of color temperatures within the RCL portfolio assisted in meeting MBLD’s desire to use warmer tones within the scheme; the DR7s were supplied with 2700K to offer a warmer aesthetic.
Track mounted remote controlled fixtures meet needs of hotel team
In addition to the DR7 luminaires, MBLD also specified 44 track-mounted DR2 LED spotlights for the foyer of the meeting rooms. The DR2 fixtures are also fully controllable in pan and tilt from ground level, due to a specific need from the Hyatt Regency team for table pin-spotting for meetings and special events.
For flexible integration within the wider design scheme, the DR2 and DR7 luminaires are linked to the centralized dimming control system via DMX, while each fixture can still be independently focused via the handheld remote.
This combination of a considered design from MBLD with flexibility from the RCL luminaires results in a scheme that offers a comfortable elegance yet delivers a functional solution for the many events hosted at the Hyatt Regency.
