Luxury Resort and Casino
All In on Lighting
The 2,995-room casino and hotel used L’Observatoire International, a New York–based lighting design and consulting firm, for the project. Owner Hervé Descottes observed, “To find your identity is not so easy.” With iLight, however, nothing is impossible. To illuminate the $3.9 billion space in a robust and distinct way, Descottes specified iLight’s Plexineon product line because of its uniform, thin line of light, consistent across colors.
Built on a relatively small plot of land, The Cosmopolitan has a vertical, urban feel. That orientation is emphasized at the grand entrance, where Plexineon fixtures add flair and sophistication. Descottes, having used Plexineon in domestic and international projects, added, “I liked that the product was very slim—perfect for highlighting The Cosmopolitan’s clean, modern lines.” Like streamers draped from above, the long lines bend with the structure and suggest a curtain separating two worlds—the expansive outdoors and The Cosmopolitan’s luxury indoor hideaway.

Plexineon in the Sky
It is not easy to make a casino stand out on the Strip, but Descottes used iLight to do just that. Approaching The Cosmopolitan’s two high-rise towers, he created a sense of motion “like a starburst moving across the sky.” Different lengths of Blue Plexineon fixtures gently pulsate on and off, from bottom to top, forming a wave-like pattern. The iLight products are perfect fits for various aspects of the project.
Since the resort’s opening, Descottes confirmed that Plexineon performed “exactly” as he hoped.
